Room 109 is Rafael Kubelík. Mr. Kubelík, who was a guest at the Hotel Continental, practiced daily on the hotel piano, located in what is now the Blue Salon breakfast room directly across the hall. This simple single room with a park view features original antique furniture, two period easy chairs upholstered in velvet an amoir, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower.
Rafael Jeroným Kubelík (1914-1996) was a Czech conductor and composer. In 1939, Rafael Kubelík became music director of the Brno Opera. He had first conducted the Czech Philharmonic in 1934 when he was 20 years old. After WWII and the Communist coup of February 1948, Kubelík left Czechoslovakia, vowing not to return until the country was liberated. Kubelík eventually did return to Prague after the fall of Communism, leading the Czech Philharmonic in the Prague Spring Festival of 1990.
